Paralives currently supports Steam Workshop and an in-game modding interface. Players can share mods, custom content, houses and Parafolks or households; the official FAQ says script mods are not planned at present.

Workshop availability does not guarantee that every item remains compatible with every patch. External plugins and mods carry additional risk and should be tested with backups.

Know what the Workshop can contain

Browse the official Steam Workshop for game-specific creations and use its current tags to narrow the type of content. Patch 0.1.4 improved tags for mods and custom content, with creators asked to update existing uploads in game. Read the item page and update history before subscribing.

Add content in small batches

Save the household and lot to the library, duplicate the current save, then add a small, identifiable set of items. Launch and check the main menu, Paramaker or Build Mode, and a short Live Mode session. A small batch makes the cause of a new problem easier to isolate.

See this system in the current game

These official images are paired with the feature they demonstrate. Historical captures are explicitly labeled and are not used to claim an unchanged 2026 interface.

Use the current all-mod controls

Patch 0.1.5 adds options in the Mods menu to enable or disable all mods. Disable everything when a patch introduces missing content, crashes or an invisible mod list, then re-enable compatible items gradually after the unmodified game behaves normally.

Treat external plugins as a separate risk

The official 0.1.5 notes warn that some external mods and plugins may make all mods invisible in menus and in game. Do not describe that symptom as a confirmed base-game bug until the external additions have been removed from the test. Never recommend an unknown download site as a required fix.
